“…Given the fact that H 2 S is endogenously produced in plants, it is important to examine its potential physiological roles. Recently, H 2 S was shown to participate in abiotic stress resistance (Zhang et al , 2010Jin et al 2011Jin et al , 2013, in plant defense against pathogen attack (Bloem et al 2004), stomatal movement (García-Mata andLamattina 2010;Lisjak et al 2010), adventitious root organogenesis (Zhang et al 2009), andautophagy (Aìlvarez et al 2012). In our present study, pretreatment with 1.2 mM NaHS for 12 h significantly improved wheat grain germination under NaCl stress.…”

“…In plants, numerous studies have shown that sulfide increases tolerance/resistance against stress conditions, such as metal stress (Zhang et al 2008 ;Dawood et al 2012 ;Wang et al 2010 ;Sun et al 2013 ;, drought (Jin et al 2011 ), hypoxia (Cheng et al 2013 ), salinity (Christou et al 2013 ;Wang et al 2012 ), and heat . Moreover, sulfide has been also demonstrated to regulate many essential plant processes, like photosynthesis (Chen et al 2011 ), stomatal movement (Garcia-Mata and Lamattina 2010 ;Lisjak et al 2010 ), flower senescence (Zhang et al 2011 ), and postharvest life of fruits (Hu et al 2012 ). Therefore, because DES1 catalyzes the enzymatic desulfuration of Cys to sulfide, the DES1 mutation provokes a reduction in the capacity of the cytosol to release sulfide.…”

“…In plant systems, hydrogen sulfide has been found to play multiple physiological roles in plant growth, development and the acquisition of stress tolerance like heat tolerance (Lisjak et al 2010(Lisjak et al , 2013Li 2013). The novel functions of hydrogen sulfide have been uncovered in seed germination (Zhang et al 2010a;Li et al 2012a), root organogenesis (Zhang et al 2009a) and stomata movement (Lisjak et al 2010;Liu et al 2011;Jin et al 2013), as well as in alleviation in osmotic stress (Zhang et al 2009b), salt stress (Wang et al 2012), oxidative stress (Shan et al 2011, heavy metal stress (Zhang et al 2008(Zhang et al , 2010bChen et al 2013) and pathogen infection (Bloem et al 2011). Our previous results also showed that pretreatment with sodium hydrosulfide (NaHS), a hydrogen sulfide donor, could improve resistance of tobacco cells (Li et al 2012b) and maize seedlings (Li et al 2013a(Li et al ,b, 2014 to high temperature, but its mechanism is not fully clear.…”
