A novel cyclic copolymer containing Si/P/N used as flame retardant and water repellent agent on cotton fabrics

Abstract: A novel cyclic‐shaped multifunctional copolymer named poly[tetra(tetramethylcyclosiloxyl‐piperazin)‐phosphinic acid methyl ether] (PNCTSi) was successfully synthesized. Its flame‐retardant and hydrophobicity properties on cotton fabrics were investigated. The limited oxygen index (LOI) value of treated cotton fabrics with PNCTSi was up to 29.8%. By vertical burning test, it was found that the treated cotton fabrics have no after‐flame and no after‐glow. Apparently, more amounts of char were generated and hazar… Show more

“…A possible reason for this phenomenon is that the nitrogen oxide gas generated by the thermal decomposition of PNCTSi caused bubbling of the phosphorus-silicon char layer formed on the surface of the cotton fiber, and a part of the bubbles was broken to form flocs. 16,29,30 The above results indicate that PNCTSi had a synergistic flame resistance effect.…”

“…Poly[tetra(tetramethylcyclosiloxyl-piperazin)-phosphinic acid methyl ether] (PNCTSi) was prepared using chloromethyl dimethylchlorosilane, methyltriethoxysilane, phosphorus oxychloride, and piperazine. 25 The structure of PNCTSi is shown in Scheme 1 and was verified by 1 H-NMR, 13 C-NMR, and FT-IR spectroscopy. 1 H-NMR: δ 0.07 (inner cyclic siloxane groups of SiCH 3 ), 0.08 (outer cyclic siloxane groups of SiCH 3 ), 1.39 (CH 2 ), 3.077 (CH 2 on piperazine), 3.6 (P-O-CH 3 ).…”

“…4. All FTIR spectra show strong peaks at 3320 cm -1 and 2890 cm -1 , respectively, which are assigned to the stretching vibration absorption of -OH (Sahito et al 2015;Xu et al 2017) and C-H (Wei et al 2018;Wan et al 2019b). The characteristic absorption peaks of FR at 1402 cm -1 , 1262 cm -1 , 1080 cm -1 and 845 cm -1 are attributed to the absorption of C-N bond (Yang et al 2018) control lyocell and FR-lyocell show weak peak at 1660 cm -1 , which is attributed to the stretching vibrations of C=O bond (Wang et al 2016;Wan et al 2019a).…”

“…[24][25][26] The introduction of flame retardants is an effective strategy to improve the inflammable CFs and CF-based sensors. 27,28 Gao et al synthesized an ammonium salt of hexamethylenediamine-N,N,N 0 ,N 0 -tetra(methylphosphonic acid) and then attached it on the CF through the condensation reaction of hydroxyl groups. The limiting oxygen index of the treated CF reached 36.0% and remained 28.0% after 50 laundering cycles.…”
