A Nonenzymatic Glucose Sensor Based on the Excellent Dispersion of a Graphene Oxide-Poly(acrylic acid)-Palladium Nanoparticle-Modified Screen-Printed Carbon Electrode

Abstract: An electrochemical sensor consisting of a screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE) modified with graphene oxide-poly(acrylic acid)palladium nanoparticles (GO-PAA-PdNPs) was developed for the nonenzymatic determination of glucose by flow injection amperometry (FI-Amp). PdNPs were synthesized on GO-PAA by electroless deposition. The surface morphology of the modified electrode was characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The electrochemical behavi… Show more

“…Developed analytical methods for the detection of alprazolam include high performance liquid chromatography [ 7 ], gas chromatography [ 8 ], UV-vis spectroscopy [ 9 ], and electrochemical techniques [ 10 , 11 , 12 ]. Electrochemical techniques are simple, inexpensive, and provide fast response times and good sensitivity [ 13 , 14 , 15 , 16 , 17 ]. Adsorptive stripping voltammetry (AdSV) is an electrochemical technique that is widely used for the analysis of trace organic compounds and various elements [ 18 , 19 , 20 ].…”

“…In aqueous solutions the PAA polymer produces carboxylate anions that can bind with metal cations (e.g., Pd 2+ [ 94 ], Cu 2+ ) before the reduction process and the deposition of metal nanoparticles, take place. In that way the GO aggregation is reduced and the metal nanoparticles dispersion on the GO surface is increased.…”

“…Generally, the noble metals, such as Au, Pd, and Pt, are used in their metallic state while the transition metals, such as Co, Cu, and Ni, are mostly used in their oxidation forms, which are discussed in the following sections. The mechanisms of the frequently seen mono-metallic (a) Au [162,163], (b) Pd [34,171], (c) Pt [164], (d) Co [110,165,166], (e) Cu [167,168], and (f) Ni [169,170] materials are summarized in Table 1. Besides, the general reaction mechanisms for the formation of the electroactive intermediates and the electro-oxidation of glucose are also shown and compared in Table 1g.…”
