Abstract: Spinal trunk list is a common occurrence in clinical practice, but few conservative methods of spinal rehabilitation have been reported. This study is a non-randomized clinical control trial of 63 consecutive retrospective subjects undergoing spinal rehabilitation and 23 prospective volunteer controls. All subjects presented with lateral thoracic-cage-translation posture (trunk list) and chronic low back pain. Initial and follow-up numerical pain rating scales (NRS) and AP lumbar radiographs were obtained afte… Show more

“…In the original classification system, treatment for patients in the lateral shift specific-exercise classification included repeated end-range lateral-shifting exercise or traction (mechanical or autotraction). 35,42 Harrison et al 60 reported the results of a nonrandomized comparison of patients with a visible lateral shift who received a program of repeated lateral-shift exercises and mechanical traction, and reported greater pain reductions and correction of the shift, compared to a group of patients receiving no treatment. Gillan et al 54 studied 40 patients with a visible lateral shift, randomizing patients to management with repeated end-range lateral-shift exercises or nonspecific advice and massage.…”

“…In a non-randomized clinical control trial, Harrison et al 8 ) demonstrated that in 36 treatment sessions using CBP corrective methods, a 50% average improvement (8 mm) occurred over an 11.5-week timespan in a sample of 63 patients with psuedoscoliosis. In a case by Oakley et al 16 ) a 35 year old male achieved a complete correction of a 16 mm pseudoscoliosis in 12-weeks resulting in resolution of LBP not achieved after recent laminectomy surgery; a 9-month follow-up demonstrated stability of both the spinal correction and patient wellbeing.…”

“…Treatment frequency was approximately three times per week throughout care. Even though the patient went on vacation and the final assessment and x-rays were performed a month after cessation of treatment, it is unlikely this affected the outcome as it is difficult to change the structural alignment of the spine without spine-specific protocols 1 , 2 , 4 , 8 ) ; as well the patient reported to feel much improved prior to the vacation. The patient consented to the publication of this report including any radiographs and pictures.…”

“…Cyriax included it in the second volume of his two-volume text book series 45 , and Maitland described the technique as well 46 . Apart from the MDT method of manual shift correction, the only other documented treatment specifically aimed at correction is a mirror image postural self-correction method, the harrison Method, which has shown significant improvements in patients with chronic back pain with associated trunk list 47 . This method uses a sophisticated imagery technique of-self correction but does not appear to be superior to the McKenzie MDT method.…”
