Abstract: The paper gives a brief overview of the content of the new IEEE Application Guide for Shunt Reactor Switching, C37.015. The interruption of shunt rector currents involves a complex interaction between the circuit breaker and the source and reactor circuits resulting in several transient overvoltage phenomena.
