Gas condensate reservoirs exhibit complex thermodynamic behaviors when the reservoir pressure is below the dew point pressure, leading to a condensate bank being created inside the reservoir, including gas and oil condensation. Due to natural fractures and multi-phase flows in fractured gas condensate reservoirs, there can be an erroneous interpretation of pressure-transient data using traditional multi-phase models or a fractured model alone. This paper establishes an analytical model for a well test analysis in a gas condensate reservoir with natural fractures. A three-region composite model was employed to characterize the multi-phase flow of retrograde condensation, and the fractured formation was described by a dual-porosity medium. In the first region, both the gas and condensate phases were mobile. In the second region, the gas was mobile whereas the condensates were immobile. In the third region, the only moving phase was the gas phase. The analytical solution was solved by a Laplace transformation to change the partial differential equations to ordinary differential equations. The Stehfest numerical inversion technique was then used to convert the solution of the proposed model into real space. Subsequently, the type curve was obtained and six flow regimes were determined. The influence of several factors on the pressure performance were studied by a sensitivity analysis. Finally, the accuracy of the model was verified by a case study. The model analysis results were in good agreement with the actual formation data. The proposed model provides a few insights toward the production behavior of fractured gas condensate reservoirs, and can be used to evaluate the productivity of such reservoirs.

The formation of gas condensate near the wellbore affects the gas liquid two-phase flow between the pores. It may occur in the path between two pores depending on the thermodynamic conditions of the single-phase gas flow, two-phase gas liquid annular flow or the closed path of condensate in the throat. To model the behavior of gas condensate in a network of pores, relative permeability and naturally pressure drop should be calculated. This study obtained the flow characteristics (pressure drop) between the pores at different physical and geometric conditions using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). CFD is time-consuming, so its results were transferred to an artificial neural network (ANN) model and the ANN model was trained. The CFD was replaced with the ANN model for calculating the pressure drop. In addition, instead of utilizing empirical correlations to compute the accurate value of condensate formed in throats' corners at every time step, the flash calculation using Esmaeilzadeh–Roshanfekr equation of state was performed, and closed throats were specified. This accurately estimates gas and condensate distribution in the pore network. Furthermore, the value of condensate that transferred to the adjacent throats was computed using Poiseuille's law. The results showed that the proposed ANN-based proxy model could promote the calculation speed in gas condensate simulation, considering the dynamic change of relative permeability curves as a function of gas condensate saturation. Also, it was found that the relative permeability obtained by the proposed model is in good agreement with the experimental data. By entering the fractures pattern in the network model and predicting the relative permeability of gas and condensate by the proposed method, the role of fractures in gas condensate production in such reservoirs could be predicted. Dynamic changes due to the relative permeability of gas and condensate as a function of saturation can be entered into the reservoir simulation to optimize inertia and positive coupling phenomena to maximized condensate production in gas condensate reservoir.

Establishment of productivity equation is an important premise for rational and efficient development of low-permeability condensate gas reservoir and accurate analysis of production performance. Based on two-phase seepage mechanism of gas and condensate oil in formation, the productivity equation is established considering threshold pressure, stress sensitivity, slippage effect, retrograde condensate effect and high-velocity non-Darcy effect. The integrals of pseudo-pressure, turbulence factor and pseudo-threshold pressure are calculated with numerical method to resolve the productivity equation. Example calculation results indicate that with the decrease in bottom hole pressure, the increase in condensate gas well production rate is near linear first and then the increase is getting slower and slower. Slippage effect increases apparent permeability and condensate gas well productivity. Retrograde condensate effect, stress sensitivity and threshold pressure decrease apparent permeability and condensate gas well productivity. Based on orthogonal experiment design, the sensitive parameters influencing the productivity of low-permeability condensate gas well are analyzed. Various factors have different influence degrees on gas well productivity in different ranges of bottom hole pressure. Research results lay a theoretical foundation for taking measures to improve gas well productivity in the gas field.
