“…When the larger alkaline earth metal thd chelates are crystallized from nonpolar solvent, trimers (Ca, Sr 34 ) and tetramers (Ba) 34 are formed. Pentamers and hexamers of Ba are also known. − The oligomerization behavior can be well-understood in terms of the coordinative unsaturation and the preferred coordination numbers of the metals that increase with increasing size. Because of the smaller size Mg(thd) 2 forms only a dimer.…”

“…It is the first crystal structure of a mixed lithium−magnesium, mixed amide−peroxide composition. In fact, main group element 1,2-μ-peroxide structures are extremely rare, being limited to a few elements such as Ba, Ge, and Sn . No such magnesium peroxide species has been crystallographically characterized.…”

“…[5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13] In addition, there are two reports of a potential m 6 -coordination mode in [Ba 6 (L) 10 (H 2 O) n (O 2 )] complexes (n = 2 or 4), where the peroxide ion in a [Ba 4 m 4 -(O 2 )] moiety bridges two further barium ions in a m-h 2 :h 2 fashion. [14,15] As far as we can determine, however, there are no molecular examples of peroxide acting in the m 6 -(h 1 ) 3 binding mode shown in Figure 1 c. This mode of binding is significant insofar as it would complete the family of possible symmetrical m n -(h 1 ) n/2 peroxide binding modes in molecular complexes. Lately we have been investigating the preparation and reactions of metal complexes that employ N-substituted 3-hydroxy-2-pyridinones (L-H, Figure 1 d) as ligands.…”
