Abstract: Multi-active bridge converters (MAB) have become a widely-researched candidate for the integration of multiple renewable sources, storage and loads for a variety of applications, from robust smart grids to more-electric aircraft. Connecting multiple dc ports reduces power conversion stress, improves efficiency, reduces material billing and increases power density. However, the power flows between the ports of a MAB converter are magnetically coupled via the high-frequency (HF) transformer, making it difficult … Show more

“…Besides, the ESS can be integrated either inside the DCFC with multiport converters (MPCs) [95], [96] or directly in the LV distribution network with its own AC/DC and DC/DC converters. On the one hand, the former approach can reduce the AC/DC converter's power rating in the DCFC and provide a controllable operating point of the AC/DC converter without influencing the EV charging course.…”

“…In that case, even when only one single cell fails, in fact, two cells are removed of the power flow, since the multiples DC-DC converter based on 2WT are not coupled magnetically among them. Hence, MTTF syst,2WT = (MTTF syst, sym /2), as expressed in (20) and illustrated in Figure 17. As can be seen, for λ icell = λ cell , the asymmetrical configuration exhibits a higher MTTF compared to the symmetrical configuration using MWT and 2WT, due to the reduced number of components.…”

“…I N the last three decades, several isolated DC-DC converter topologies have been widely investigated in the literature for integrating distributed DC power sources, storage units, and DC loads, enhancing the power transfer capability and increasing the conversion efficiency [1]- [5]. However the isolated multiport DC-DC converters, in particular, those based on the MWT have been drawn more attention [6]- [20], due to their advantages in the applications where multiple DC sources and/or loads should be integrated, while ensuring galvanic isolation and adopting different voltage levels among the ports.…”

“…The second way decouples the power from the root of the problem, i.e. the inductance network of the multiwinding transformer as in [12]. The method can decrease the controller implementation complexity greatly.…”
