A Model for incorporating information literacy and collaboration in a project-based learning pedagogical exercise with application to a fluid mechanics course

Abstract: This paper describes the implementation and the results of an online project-based learning (PBL) pedagogy in an advanced fluid mechanics course in a mechanical engineering technology program. This work is a close collaboration between engineering and education faculty and the engineering librarian, and aligns with the new research areas identified by the National Engineering Education Research Colloquies and the ABET Criteria for Accrediting Engineering Technology Programs Criterion 3 (student outcomes, SLO 1… Show more

“…The selection of an effective model in the new normal era is a challenge for teachers in improving the learning outcomes of geography students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Generally, a good learning model has systematic characteristics and procedures, learning outcomes determined according to the criteria, and functions such as guidelines, curriculum development, teaching materials, and revisions in the learning [69]. The effectiveness of this model can be designed so that students can have good learning outcomes, including building their knowledge abilities, skills, and skills in problem-solving and social skills.…”

“…These since-revised criteria have continually been cited in subsequent papers examining the importance of standards and standards education. Researchers (Cioc et al, 2021(Cioc et al, , 2022Phillips & McPherson, 2016) also examined standards used in engineering technology, specifically standards literacy in mechanical engineering technology curricula. The goals of the Cioc et al (2021) inclass project were to align with the new ABET Criterion 3 and Criterion 5.…”

“…Once configured, it would be necessary to specify which types of AI would be the most appropriate for its development. The complexity of today's organizational databases highlights the importance of complex technical skills as well as soft skills (Mitchell & Vaughan, 2022) and CL improved students' readiness for the workforce (Cioc et al, 2022) and transferable skills (Larraz et al, 2017), including improving one's ability to work with other students on assignments, listening to the ideas of others, learning from the ideas of others, and evaluating the ideas of others (Cioc et al, 2022). The skills or competencies required may be generic or specific.…”
