In recent years, given the development of networks and technological innovations, the user mobility has increased so much. That is why the interactive applications must be executed on both mobile devices as PDAs, mobile phones and PC. The user is then progressing in a varied and dynamic environment. Therefore, the challenges of the User Interface are related to the adaptation to the context of use. This paper describes a model-based approach to generate user interfaces adapted to their context of use, while respecting usability. The Model Driven Engineering is used to provide solutions to the problems of adaptation and usability and allow automatic generation of user interfaces. User Interface (UI) personalization aims at providing the right information, at the right time, and on the right support (tablets, smart-phone, etc.). Personalization can be performed on the interface elements’ presentation (e.g. layout, screen size, and resolution) and on the content provided (e.g., data, information, document). While many existing approaches deal with the first type of personalization, this chapter explores content personalization. To that end, the authors define a context-aware Model Driven Architecture (MDA) approach where the UI model is enriched by data from a domain model and its mapping to a context model. They conclude that this approach is better used only for domains where one envisions several developments of software applications and/or user interfaces.

The aim of adaptive user interface is to provide different layouts and relevant information according to the current context-of-use (users, platforms and environments). Today, these systems are indispensable to those who want to retrieve appropriate information with less effort at anytime and anywhere. In this paper, the authors present an approach to automatically evaluate UI adaptation at runtime. The idea consists on foreseeing the evaluation from the early stages of application development by integrating a tracing system which represents the first phase of a user-centred approach for the design and the evaluation of adaptive system (AS) called MetTra (evaluation METhod based on a TRAcing system). In fact, the authors will explain in depth the stages of tracing mechanism integration in AS design, with illustrations concerning transport applications. Finally, they will propose some future works.
