“…By the 1960s, the Early Memory Test was in widespread use and often was administered as part of the "standard" projective test battery (Rapaport, Gill, & Schafer, 1968). Early memories have attracted the attention of investigators of diverse theoretical orientations (Barret, 1980;Bruhn, 1984;Bruhn & Last, 1982;Friedman & Schiffman, 1962;Langs, 1965aLangs, , 1965bLangs, Rothenberg, Fishman, & Reiser, 1960;Mayman, 1963Mayman, , 1968Mayman & Faris, 1960;Pattie, 1972;Rosenheim & Mane, 1984).…”

Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD. The current study examined the time course and magnitude of activity in threat processing brain regions during speech anticipation in socially anxious individuals and healthy controls (HC). Method Participants (SAD n = 58; HC n = 16) underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during which they completed a 90s control anticipation task and 90s speech anticipation task.

“…Distinguishing features of early recollections that include virtually unlimited subjective and schematic meanings, however, reduce the possibility of determining precise empirical measurement of personality structures. Although there have been various attempts to devise quantifiable scoring systems (Bruhn, 1990(Bruhn, , 1992Langs, Rothenberg, Fishman, & Reiser, 1960;Levy, 1965;Lieberman, 1957;Lord, 1982;Manaster & Perryman, 1974;Mayman, 1968), the results have not received wide acceptance because of psychometric and methodological limitations. Instead, early recollections tend to be interpreted qualitatively and on an idiosyncratic basis by practitioners (Goldman, 1990).…”

“…No definitive volume exists for interpreting early recollections; an edited edition (Olson, 1979) covers a variety of topics, and a more current publication (Bruhn, 1990) relates to clinical practice. Various attempts have been made to develop a scoring system for early memories, but none have been widely accepted (Bruhn, 1985;Langs, Rothenberg, Fishman, & Reiser, 1960;Last & Bruhn, 1983;Levy, 1965;Manaster & Perryman, 1974;Mayman, 1968). A recently published manual, The Early Memories Procedure (Bruhn, 1989), includes a comprehensive scoring system.…”
