Abstract: Nutraceuticals have been extensively studied worldwide due to its neuroprotective effects in in vivo and in vitro studies, attributed by the antioxidative properties. Alzheimer (AD) and Parkinson disease (PD) are the two main neurodegenerative disorders that are discussed in this review. Both AD and PD share the similar involvement of oxidative stress in their pathophysiology. Nutraceuticals exert their antioxidative effects via direct scavenging of free radicals, prevent damage to biomolecules, indirectly sti… Show more

“…Furthermore, it also reduces the expression of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), an important inflammatory cytokine. Collectively, MLT shows defense against inflammatory properties [3,89]. The pro-inflammatory agent TNF-α induces pathological conditions such as chronic inflammation and malignancy [90].…”

“…It is a nutrient and health compound extracted from natural plants such as grapes, cranberries and peanuts [ 16 , 17 ]. Studies have shown that RES has pharmacological effects, such as scavenging free radicals [ 18 ] and anti-inflammatory [ 19 ] and antioxidant [ 20 ] properties, which can reduce the development of IBD and improve the quality of life of patients with UC. Research by Fang Li et al [ 21 ] also showed that RES can reduce the inflammatory symptoms and tissue damage in the dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced mice colitis model.…”

“…Antioxidant compounds have been used to protect neurons against different type of damage [27][28][29][30]. Among them, apocynin (4-hidroxy-3-methoxyacetophenone) is one of the most frequently used as an NADPH oxidase inhibitor.…”
