Abstract: A new detection device was designed by integrating fiber Bragg grating (FBG) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) tube in order to monitor the slip surface of a landslide. Using this new FBG-based device, a corresponding slope model with a pre-set slip surface was designed, and seven tests with different soil properties were carried out in laboratory conditions. The FBG sensing fibers were fixed on the PVC tube to measure strain distributions of PVC tube at different elevation. Test results indicated that the PVC tube… Show more

“…Indoor slope experiment typically involves sliding the slope by increasing the slope angle (Tao et al, 2020), employing thrust (Wang et al, 2017), or applying bottom friction (Brianc xon et al, 2002). In this study, a hydraulic jack was employed to apply thrust to the slope body to simulate a translational landslide, as illustrated in Figure 5.…”

“…There are several components of landslide monitoring, including displacement, strain, hydrology, precipitation, ground temperature, and other environmental factors [3]. Among them, displacement is the most direct state quantity reflecting landslides, so that monitoring Sensors 2022, 22, 1725 2 of 21 landslide displacement can play a more accurate role in early warning and forecast [4]. Nowadays, displacement monitoring of landslides has been proven to be the most costeffective risk reduction measure [5][6][7].…”

“…With the increasing number of seismic sensors deployed worldwide and the development of sensor technology, it has become possible to use seismic sensors for landslide monitoring, especially at a regional scale [9]. Much research have been done on landslide monitoring by all kinds of high precision sensors [10][11][12][13]. Recent studies show that large landslides can generate strong low-frequency seismic signals [14].…”

“…Recent studies show that large landslides can generate strong low-frequency seismic signals [14]. Many actual landslides have been detected with low-frequency seismic signals [12,[15][16][17][18][19]. For instance, the main frequency of the weak seismic signal of the Xiaolin landslides occurring in Taiwan in 2009 was 0.5-1.5 Hz [17,18].…”
