A High-Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) Method for Simultaneous Determination of Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride and Naproxen Sodium in Tablets

Abstract: A rapid and simple high-performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC) method with densitometry at 230 nm was developed and validated for simultaneous determination of diphenhydramine hydrochloride (DPH) and naproxen sodium (NPS) from pharmaceutical preparation. The separation was carried out on aluminum plates precoated with silica gel 60 F254 using mobile phase toluene:methanol:glacial acetic acid (7.5:1:0.2, v/v/v). The linearity range lies between 200 and 1200 ng/band for DPH and 1760 and 10,560 ng/band for… Show more

“…For detecting the presence of phytochemicals the initial concentration of extracts selected was 10mg/ml and 10µl sample was loaded on to the TLC sheets. Extracts were loaded on Silica gel 60 F254 TLC aluminium sheets (5×7.5 cm) (Merck) were used to perform analysis (Aliyu, 2011;Bhole, 2015;Szymulanska-Ramamurthy, 2017). Details of solvent systems, developing reagents and positive observations are as mentioned in the table below and are different for according to phytochemical.…”

“…Its advantages such as high selectivity and efficiency, low detection limits, no carry-over [70,71]. The potential of HPTLC in combination with MS to identify drugs and metabolites in urine was already demonstrated in 1999 by Tames et al [72].…”

“…This leads to the increase of vascular smooth muscle contraction, so reducing the redness, hyperthermia and edema that occur during an inflammatory reaction. Several techniques were published for the estimation of DPH in pharmaceutical formulations and in biological fluids including: spectrophotometry [2-5], potentiometric [6], high performance liquid chromatography [7,8], liquid chromatography [9] and capillary electrophoresis [10,11].…”
