A Fast Response Strontium Ion‐Selective Electrode Prepared by Sol‐Gel Membrane Technique

Abstract: A sol-gel electrode, based on 6-(4-nitrophenyl)-2-phenyl-4,4-dipropyl-3,5-diaza-bicyclo [3,1,0] hex-2-ene (NPDBH) as a neutral ionophore, was successfully developed for the detection of Sr 2þ in aqueous solutions. Theoretical calculations confirmed NPDBH selectivity toward strontium in comparison with some other metal ions. The electrode responds to Sr 2þ ion with a sensitivity of 29.1 AE 0.4 mV/decade over the range 8.0 Â 10 À7 -1.0 Â 10 À1 M. Selectivity coefficients determined by matched potential method (M… Show more

“…Zanjanchi et al reported the use of organically modified sol-gel-derived materials to prepare strontium (Sr)(II) ion-selective membranes (19). The physical immobilization of the ionophore, 6-(4-nitrophenyl)-2-phenyl-4,4-dipropyl-3,5-diaza-bicyclo [3,1,0] hex-2-ene, into the sol-gel-based membrane resulted in a significant improvement in sensor lifetime (~6 months).…”

“…6 H 2 O in sol-gel matrix was studied under the conditions established above. The results show that there is no quenching in the energy of Tb 3+ -(HCT) in solgel matrix in the presence of acetonitrile [30][31][32][33][39][40][41][42].…”

“…18 Another example of electrode-based sensor for strontium ion was presented by Zanjanchi et al, which showed that the sensor has high selectivity, fast response time and can work in a pH range of 3-10. 19 Even though all the papers mentioned above are related to the development of chemosensor for strontium ion, the present work exhibits many interesting points. Apart from the easy development and function of the sensor, the present work is unique and interesting in terms of its practical application.…”
