A Dual‐Polymer Electrochromic Device with High Coloration Efficiency and Fast Response Time: Poly(3,4‐(1,4‐butylene‐(2‐ene)dioxy)thiophene)–Polyaniline ECD

Abstract: A new dual-polymer electrochromic device (ECD) composed of poly(3,4-(1,4-butylene-(2-ene)dioxy)thiophene) (PBueDOT) and polyaniline (PANI) with a hydrophobic molten salt electrolyte has been developed. To build this system, an alkylenedioxy ring in the BueDOT backbone was expanded to include a strongly electron-donating alkylenedioxy bridge, and the thickness and surface morphology of the corresponding PBueDOT film were controlled systematically. Not only the dual-electrochromic-polymer-electrode system, but a… Show more

“…[ 1 , 2 ] Consequently, various organic and inorganic conducting, semiconducting, and dielectric materials, as well as stimulus-responsive functional materials, have been immobilized on paper substrate for applications in displays, sensors, solar cells, and memory devices. [3][4][5][6][7][8] Among the patterning methods employed for deposition of functional materials on paper substrates, the inkjet technique [ 9 ] is of great interest owing to its superior features, including the ability to (1) generate patterns with noncontact operation on large areas, (2) obtain end-user control of structural design of patterns utilizing software on a PC, and (3) allow low production costs.…”

“…To the best of our knowledge and based on an extensive search of the literature, the electrochromic lenses and sunglasses we report herein represent the best visible‐region electrochromic performance for dual‐polymer CP electrochromic systems to date. They also are, to our knowledge, the first practical implementation in working sunglasses, that is, they represent practical, functional, and applied polymers.…”

“…The outstanding properties of these polymers, allow themselves to be used as sensors, catalysts, electrochromic materials, etc. [1][2][3][4][5][6]. However, the poor processability of these materials somehow restricts their applications.…”
