A direct scaling analysis for the sea level rise

Abstract: The estimation of long-term sea level variability is of primary importance for a climate change assessment. Despite the value of the subject, no scientific consensus has yet been reached on the existing acceleration in observed values. The existence of this acceleration is crucial for coastal protection planning purposes. The absence of the acceleration would enhance the debate on the general validity of current future projections. Methodologically, the evaluation of the acceleration is a controversial and sti… Show more

“…These countries host a permanent tide gauge facility which records the observations on sea levels and tides. Tide gauges are fitted with sensors which record the height of the surrounding water level [31,32]. The design has been improved over the years to protect sensitive electronics, transmitting devices, backup power and storage components.…”

“…Our approach is based on a direct scaling since analyses do not fit any specific model of . This empirical approach is well-known in literature, see for example [ 52 ] and in other contexts as to estimate the rate of sea level rise at some selected tide gauges around the world [ 53 ], in porous media [ 54 , 55 ], and in the framework of fluid mechanics [ 56 , 57 ].…”
