Abstract: RECENT ADVANCEMENTS in power source and electronic technology havc increased the theoretical lifetimc of a pacemaker to 10-12 years. No longer is pacer failure the primary reason for removal. The heart lead interface and changes in the physiology of the patient have become the main causes for pacemaker explant.
