“…Broad host range of CMV from subgroup I and II have been identified in India, which includes: Chrysanthemum [45]; Ocimum sanctum and Zinnia elegans [34]; Amaranthus tricolor, Datura innoxia and Hyoscyamus muticus [44]; Gerbera [53]; Vanilla [28]; Pelargonium [52]; Piper longum and Piper betel [19]; Rouvolfia serpentine [35]; Jatropha curcas [36]; Catharanthus roseus [40]; Daucas carrota [1]; Banana [24,29]; Lycopersicum esculentum [15,25,47]; Gladiolus [13]. Although many CMV strains were isolated from India, but incomplete information is available at the genome level about these isolates.…”

“…Phytopathogenic viruses are major constraints to agricultural productivity throughout the world. It is an unfortunate fact that Pakistan, in common with all other countries of southern Asia, is home to members of virtually all taxonomic groups of plant-infecting viruses [ 26 - 31 ] which, at least in part, explains the low agricultural productivity in the country. Prime amongst these viruses are the begomoviruses that have appeared as dominant pathogens on several crops.…”

“…The ability of CMV to be transmitted declines after about 2 minutes and is usually lost with in 2 hours (Francki et al, 1979). Some investigators (Magee, 1930;Calinisan, 1938;Silberschmidt and Nobrega, 1941) have reported the successful transmission of banana mosaic virus by the banana aphid P.nigronervosa, where as others have reported negative transmission (Bird and Wellman, 1962;Mali and Rajegore, 1980). CMV has the broadest host range among the plant viruses (Roosinck, 2002) and has been reported infecting banana and causes banana chlorosis disease.…”

“…These results revealed that the CMV is aphid transmissible and agreed with the data recorded by Rao (1980) who reported that the successful transmission of CMV to test plants by A. gossypii. Mali and Rajegore (1980) who indicated that CMV isolated from banana was transmitted by A. craccivora to healthy plants.…”
