A Critical Assessment of the Congruency between Environmental DNA and Palaeoecology for the Biodiversity Monitoring and Palaeoenvironmental Reconstruction

Abstract: The present study suggests that standardized methodology, careful site selection, and stratigraphy are essential for investigating ancient ecosystems in order to evaluate biodiversity and DNA-based time series. Based on specific keywords, this investigation reviewed 146 publications using the SCOPUS, Web of Science (WoS), PUBMED, and Google Scholar databases. Results indicate that environmental deoxyribose nucleic acid (eDNA) can be pivotal for assessing and conserving ecosystems. Our review revealed that in t… Show more

“…Despite the large variation at the interspecific level, great stability could be observed at the intraspecific level and all species with the same genomic constitution had similar DNA content. The results thus support conclusions of others researchers [ 42 , 50 , 51 , 52 , 53 ]. Our results were also consistent with Lee et al [ 54 ], which used flow cytometry and the chromosome imaging technique in hexaploid wheat, hexaploid triticale, tetraploid wheat and AA, BB, DD genome donors.…”

“…However, to achieve the desirable outcomes, it is necessary to design repeatable and reliable biodiversity surveys based on eDNA. It is important to understand the constraints and caveats that affect its implementation [ 29 ]. After thoroughly understanding its strengths and limitations, it can be possible to generate correct inferences from the data.…”

“…The use of Web of Science, Scopus and other approaches to searching for articles is to balance the unique strengths and weakness of each database, as some databases do not cover some fields or journals (see Adriaanse and Rensleigh, 2013; Murgado-Armenteros et al. , 2015; Hassan et al. , 2022).…”

“…Other relevant articles were included through citation searching within the obtained articles and search on Google Scholar. The use of Web of Science, Scopus and other approaches to searching for articles is to balance the unique strengths and weakness of each database, as some databases do not cover some fields or journals (see Adriaanse and Rensleigh, 2013;Murgado-Armenteros et al, 2015;Hassan et al, 2022). Considering the literature found within the domain and the choice of the scoping PM 41,5 review, every piece of literature focusing on client influence or pressure on property valuation was considered.…”
