A Concise Review of Silver Diamine Fluoride on Oral Biofilm

Abstract: Studies have shown that silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is an effective agent to arrest and prevent dental caries due to its mineralizing and antibacterial properties. While plenty of studies have investigated the mineralizing properties, there are few papers that have examined its antibacterial effect on oral biofilm. The objective of this study was to identify the effect of silver diamine fluoride on oral biofilm. Method: The keywords used were (silver diamine fluoride OR silver diammine fluoride OR SDF OR sil… Show more

“…Indeed, the combination therapy was able to completely kill cells and eradicate an established biofilm at a much lower concentration of 32 mg/L of AgNO 3 and 32 mg/L of ArCO 2 G 2 (SNMe 3 I) 4 (2) (Table 2). The anti-microbial effect of silver has been reported previously by other authors against planktonic cells and biofilms [21,27,57,58]. (2) and EDTA indicate that it was possible to reduce the MFC value for both compounds using 8 mg/L and 256 mg/L, respectively.…”

“…According to Mei et al, (28) Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) has been clinically successful in halting dentin caries; hence, this study sought to determine how it works. On dentin carious lesions, 38% SDF suppresses the growth of multispecies cariogenic biofilms (29) . SDF is regarded as a useful tool for halting caries as a result.…”

“…Various types of microorganisms in the mouth form dental biofilms when they are placed on the surface of teeth and mucous membranes, causing chronic diseases such as dental caries and periodontitis. Acids produced as a result of microbial metabolism in dental biofilms acidify the oral cavity environment, resulting JKAPD in demineralization of the tooth surface and dental caries [1,2].…”
