“…Atopy is thought to respond to many allergens, leading to CD4 + Th2 differentiation and overexpression of IgE, so we collected the results of IgE from all people who already have done SPT. Among 3450 IgE result, the patients with elevated IgE were 2413 with a percentage of 69.96%, which came in concordance with a study done in Colorado, in which Knight et al (16) reported good concordance between both SPT and IgE with an overall >70% agreement between methods. If an IgE test is carried out and has results beyond expectation when considering the history, SPT should be carried out to confirm the diagnosis of an allergy.…”

“…In the study of Knight et al. 25 95% patients (84) with a positive SPT also had a positive in vitro test, whilst only 83% (1078/1302) with a positive SPT in our own study also had a positive in vitro test. Besides other factors these differences could be explained by two different in vitro test methods and different cut‐offs in the two studies.…”

“…The results of grass pollen‐sensitized patients were compared with data generated by Knight et al. 25 Out of 99 sensitized patients, 84% (84) had positive test results employing both techniques, while 11 sensitizations were only diagnosed by in vitro and only four by SPT. In the study of Knight et al.…”

“…Some studies use sIgE to define atopic status, instead of, or in addition to, SPT. There is generally good correlation between sIgE and SPT (>70% concordance), at least in high‐income country settings …”

“…There is generally good correlation between sIgE and SPT (>70% concordance), at least in high-income country settings. 50,51 Not all children with a positive SPT will develop clinical symptoms of eczema, hay fever or allergic asthma. Some non-atopic children may develop different types of asthma caused by non-atopic mechanisms.…”
