Abstract: Fluorometric assessments of Simuliidae gut contents can measure algal ingestion, but pigment extraction methods are variable. Total pigment concentration was not significantly different across three tested methods. An organic solvent extraction method using intact larvae provides efficient, repeatable quantifications of larval diets, is comparably more applicable to all life stages, and will enable examinations of relationships between larval feeding and insecticide effectiveness.
