A comparative study on the efficiencies of polyethylene compatibilizers by using theoretical methods

Abstract: Functionalization of polyethylene chains by grafting of polar groups onto backbones is the most versatile way for preparing polyethylene based compatibilizers (PECs). In this work, a series of theoretical studies were performed to analyze the structure, adhesion and mixing behaviors of PECs. The effect of grafting different polar groups such as acrylic acid (AA), glycidyl methacrylate (GMA), maleic anhydride (MAH) and itaconic acid (IA) on the structure and cohesive properties of polyethylene chains were studi… Show more

“…The most promising functional groups that are reactive towards PET are: Glycidyl Methacrylate (GMA) and Maleic Anhydryde (MA) (Sun et al, 1996;Yildirim and Yurtsever, 2012). The final selection of the functionalized compatibilizers will contain these groups.…”

“…However, PVAc also exhibits some defects (e.g., poor cold tolerance, poor mechanical stability, poor thermal stability, and poor water resistance) that directly affect the related integrated value of utilization and processing. The copolymerizing and blending with other polymers, or incorporating nanofillers, can improve or make up them. About motmorillonite (MMT) or organic motmorillonite (OMMT) reinforcing PVAc, the emulsion polymerization method, or called in situ polymerization, is often used.…”
