A comparative study on phyllosilicate and tectosilicate mineral structural properties

Abstract: The present study examines various methods used for the characterization of three common natural silicate minerals, one zeolite (clinoptilolite) and two clays (montmorillonite and vermiculite). Characterization of natural minerals were performed through a series of analytical measurements so as gather all the information needed regarding their properties, in order to distinguish them from "similar" minerals such in the case of clinoptilolite vs heulandite and vermiculite vs hydrobiotite; this will enable their… Show more

“…The chemical composition of modified zeolites clearly indicates the aluminosilicate nature of the material as shown in Table 3. The Si/Al molar ratio of the NZU sample is 5.32 as expected for clinoptilolite [42]. The NZU-Na sample is enriched in Na as expected after the modification with NaCl, and according to the results, Na + it replaces Ca 2+ from the zeolite structure.…”

“…The large peak at 1140-450 cm −1 is assigned for the lattice Si-O-Si or Si-O-Al vibrations. The peaks observed at finger print area below 700 cm −1 are similar to that of the typical peaks from NaY [26].…”

The peaks observed at finger print area below 700 cm −1 are similar to that of the typical peaks from NaY [26]. The 29 Si and 27 Al solid state NMR from Figure 7 are very powerful probes to analyze the structure of Si and Al species in the aluminosilicate materials [29].…”
