“…In contrast to mRNAs and proteins, miRNAs are not involved in complex post-transcriptional and post-transcriptional modification. Considering the limitations of condition and time for tissue sampling (Freidin et al 2012), circulating miRNAs are optimal prog- nostic biomarkers for cancer (Sanfiorenzo et al 2013;Chen et al 2013b;Lin et al 2013;Greenberg et al 2013;Kim et al 2013). However, further studies should be conducted before miRNA can be extensively used in clinical applications.…”

“…The unique expression profile of circulating miRNA may function as the fingerprint of different diseases because miRNAs are highly stable in serum and plasma (Chen et al 2008). Circulating miRNA has been considered as a potential non-invasive biomarker in tumor diagnosis and prognosis (Sanfiorenzo et al 2013;Chen et al 2013b;Lin et al 2013;Greenberg et al 2013;Kim et al 2013;Rani et al 2013).…”

“…Among those ncRNA species, miRNA has been primarily studied, so far, mainly because of proven stability in the circulation and availability of specific and sensitive detection assays [8,9]. In malignant melanoma, several studies analyzed clinical utility of circulating microRNA [10,11]. However, clinical relevance of other ncRNA in the circulation of melanoma patients has not yet been investigated.…”

“…Many tumor types have been evaluated for differential miRNA expression, including ovarian carcinomas, breast cancer, cervical cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, leukemias, colorectal tumors, squamous cell carcinoma, and hepatocellular carcinoma [2128]. Use of miRNAs in support of other diagnostic methods is currently in its infancy, with miRNA signatures having been developed in people to distinguish melanoma and metastatic breast cancer from healthy controls and higher risk groups in breast cancer and prostate cancer [2932]. There are few reports of miRNA involvement in cancer of veterinary patients, but interest in this area will likely increase with the rapid growth of this topic in human medicine [3335].…”
