A Comparative Analyses of the Complete Mitochondrial Genomes of Fungal Endosymbionts in Sogatella furcifera, White-Backed Planthoppers

Abstract: Sogatella furcifera Horvath, commonly known as the white-backed planthoppers (WBPH), is an important pest in East Asian rice fields. Fungal endosymbiosis is widespread among planthoppers in the infraorder Fulgoromorpha and suborder Auchenorrhyncha. We successfully obtained complete mitogenome of five WBPH fungal endosymbionts, belonging to the Ophiocordycipitaceae family, from next-generation sequencing (NGS) reads obtained from S. furcifera samples. These five mitogenomes range in length from 55,390 bp to 55,… Show more

“…Assembled sequences were confirmed by BWA v0.7.17 (Li, 2013) and SAMtools v1.9 (Li et al, 2009) while separating the complete mitochondrial genome of Uroleucon erigeronense . All bioinformatic analyses were conducted in the Genome Information System (GeIS; https://geis.infoboss.co.kr/) as utilized in previous studies (Choi et al, 2021;Kim et al, 2021b;Park et al, 2021a).…”

“…Simple sequence repeats (SSRs) were identified on the mitochondrial genome sequence with the SSR database pipeline utilized in previous studies (Choi et al 2021; Kim et al 2019; Kim et al 2021e; Park et al 2020c; Park et al 2022a). We conducted this analysis according to usual definition of an SSR on the circular genome (mitochondria and chloroplast): monoSSR (1 bp), hexaSSR (6 bp), and decaSSR (10 bp) (Lee et al 2020b; Park et al, 2021e).…”

“…Simple sequence repeats (SSRs) were identified on the chloroplast genome sequence using the pipeline of the SSR database (SSRDB; http://ssrdb.infoboss.co.kr/) which has been utilized in several organelle genomic studies (Lee et al, 2020;Choi et al, 2021;Park et al, 2021dPark et al, , 2022. The SSR is conventionally recognized as the nucleotide array composed of repeats with one or up to six base pair units.…”
