Abstract: COMMUNICATION VIA the ac power lines is a viable means of routing data through buildings. Although not new in principle, carrier current transmission (CCT) is difficult t o implement, due in large part to the nasty demeanor of the ac line. Circuits must not only meet the challenges of driving the widely-varying line impedance and of receiving mV signals buried in impulse noise, but must also withstand line transients.
