3D‐Positioning of Nanoparticles in High‐Curvature Block Copolymer Domains

Abstract: The defined assembly of nanoparticles in polymer matrices is an important precondition for next-generation functional materials. Here we demonstrate that adefined threedimensional nanoparticle assembly within the unit cells can be realized by directly linking the nanoparticles to blockc opolymers.W es howt hat for ar ange of nearly symmetric to unsymmetric blockc opolymers there are only two formed structures, ahexagonal lattice of P6/mmm-symmetry,where the nanoparticles are located in 1D-arrays within the cylin… Show more

“…8,9 Learning from nature, the dissipative assembly of synthetic molecules driven by chemical fuels was suggested in 2010 by Boekhoven et al 10 Now, scientists have successfully constructed diverse nonequilibrium systems by adopting various types of microscopic building blocks, such as small molecules, [11][12][13][14] synthetic polymers, 15,16 biomacromolecules, 17,18 and nanoparticles. [19][20][21] Recent work has also shown promise in controlling drug release behaviors 22 and self-healing functions 15,[23][24][25] in nonequilibrium systems. Despite these achievements, current studies in this filed are still focusing on the micro level, and far too little attention has been paid to the macroscopic nonequilibrium assembly.…”

“…The BCP ordered mesophase can be found to template the position of NPs, which may result in ordered NPs structures [44][45][46] such as arrays of NPs confined within lamellar domains [47]. Neutral NPs have been shown to change the orientation of lamellar BCP in thin films from parallel to perpendicular [48].…”
