Abstract: This systematic review compares clinical outcomes between platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and corticosteroid injections for the treatment of lumbar spondylosis and sacroiliac arthropathy. A systematic review was registered with the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO) and performed according to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines using the Pubmed, SCOPUS, and Ovid MEDLINE databases. All level I-III evidence comparative studies publish… Show more

“…The comparable results between both of our groups after the injection are consistent with a systematic review by Ling et al 27 that included comparative studies on the clinical outcomes of PRP and CS injections for the treatment of lumbar spondylosis and sacroiliac arthropathy. Among the 5 studies (242 patients, among whom 114 and 128 received PRP and CS) analyzed, 4 found that both PRP and CS treatment showed a statistically comparable reduction in VAS scores of the patients, whereas the remaining study showed that only the PRP group exhibited a significant reduction in VAS scores.…”

“…A number of recent reviews have suggested that PRP therapy yields a more favorable functional outcome as well as reduced pain in the long‐term compared to CS treatment; for a variety of conditions including lateral epicondylitis, 50 , 51 knee osteoarthritis, 52 lumbar spondylosis and sacroiliac arthropathy. 53 In addition, a randomized control trial 54 reported that there seems to be clinically important improvements disability (>15‐point DASH change) at long‐term follow‐up for treating degenerative tendinopathies.…”

“…Erwähnenswert ist noch eine aktuelle Studie von Ling et al [19], der Steroide mit PRP (Platelet Riched Plasma) verglich und gleichwertige als auch überlegene Ergebnisse bei der Verwendung von PRP aufzeigte. Hier könnte sich ein Weg aus dem Dilemma der immer auch systemischen (Neben-)effekte bei der Verwendung von Steroiden auftun.…”
