Comparing novel versus conventional technique of platelet‐rich plasma therapy in periorbital hyperpigmentation: A randomized prospective split‐face study

Abstract: Background Platelet‐rich plasma (PRP) has been found to be effective in treating periorbital hyperpigmentation (POH). PRP prepared by double‐spin (DS) method and activated by calcium has been used conventionally. PRP can be prepared by single spin (SS) and activated at low temperature (novel method), but the evidence is limited. Objective To compare the novel and conventional PRP in the treatment of periorbital hyperpigmentation. Methods We selected 21 patients of POH and randomly divided the face into two hal… Show more

“…However, there seem to be no significant differences between the double-spin method using calcium chloride for platelet activation versus a single-spin method using low temperature for activation on the success of POH treatment. 1 This suggests that PRP preparation and activation may not play a significant role in determining treatment efficacy, though further research is necessary.…”

“…Discovery and isolation of stem cells from various adult tissues such as umbilical cord, bone marrow, and adipose tissue has led to their utilization in managing diverse group of health issues including skin rejuvenation (Mahmood et al, 2019). Similarly, platelet‐rich plasma (PRP) has also been applied in facial rejuvenation; however, it can't fill up the contour defect as well as has limited effects on face hyperpigmentation (Budania et al, 2021; Uysal & Ertas, 2017).…”
