Abstract: Background To compare clinical intra and early postoperative outcomes between conventional Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) and Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate using the Virtual Basket tool (VB-HoLEP) to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Methods This prospective randomized study enrolled consecutive patients with BPH, who were assigned to undergo either HoLEP (n = 100), or VB-HoLEP (n = 100). All patients were eva… Show more

“…[ 15 ] HoLEP is known as “bloodless cutting,” less intraoperative bleeding is one of the remarkable advantages over TURP and PKRP, this merit would be beneficial to the decrease in hemoglobin in HoLEP. [ 16 ] After discharge, no significant difference in hospitalization costs were observed in contrast to the significant difference in hospitalization stay among the 3 groups. From our perspective, TURP has a slightly lower cost in operation, but the total hospitalization costs are offset by longer hospital stay.…”

“…No excess wounds were brought about, but a clear vision was shown, which was convenient for the subsequent removal of the bullet, further reducing complications. [10] Iatrogenic injuries are found pretty commonly in this sort of operation, among which infection and bleeding are particularly prominent. [11][12][13] However, we have effectively avoided complications with minimal intraoperative and postoperative injuries.…”

“…23,42 One of the surgical alternative treatments to TURP, or open prostatectomy for BPH, HoLEP according to EAU Guidelines, has the major advantage of reducing haemorrhage both intraoperatively and postoperatively which decreases transfusion rate, curtails hospital stay and need of catheterization. 43 An upgrade to conventional HoLEP, VB-HoLEP determines quicker operative time and results in a reduced amount of haemoglobin decrease, as it enhances coagulation, otherwise no variances in regard to time of catheterization, volume for irrigation, hospitalization, PVR, QOLS, maximum flow rate (Q max ) and IPSS at 3 and 6 months. Thulium laser enucleation of the prostate (ThuLEP) is superior to HoLEP in terms of the efficacy, safety and overall outcomes.…”
