Equal Ratio Ventilation Reduces Blood Loss During Posterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion Surgery

Abstract: During posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF), engorgement of the vertebral vein increases surgical bleeding due to the prone position. Compared to conventional ratio ventilation (inspiratory to expiratory ratio [I:E ratio] = 1:2), equal ratio ventilation (I:E ratio = 1:1) lowered airway pressure and reduced surgical bleeding in patients undergoing PLIF.
