3-Mercaptopropanoic Acid-Doped Chitosan/Hybrid-Based Multilayer Sol-Gel Coatings for Cu Protection in 3.5% NaCl Solution

Abstract: In this work, biopolymer based sol-gel was synthesized by doping 3-mercaptopropanoic acid (MPA) with chitosan and a hybrid of 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GPTMS) and tetraethoxysilane (TEOS). Prepared MPA/hybrid-doped chitosan was applied toa copper (Cu) metal surface by the self-assembly technique to protect the Cu metal from corrosion in a 3.5% NaCl solution.
