Efficacy of fibrin glue versus sutures for attaching conjunctival autografts in pterygium surgery: a systematic review with meta-analysis and trial sequential analysis of evidence

Abstract: Previous meta-analyses have been conducted to compare the efficacy of fibrin glue (FG) versus sutures in pterygium surgery; however, additional clinical trials have since been published. Therefore, we conducted an updated meta-analysis to further explore the association between FG application in pterygium surgery, and the recurrence rate, complication rate, and surgical duration. An electronic literature search for eligible studies published before July 29, 2016 was conducted across multiple databases. Odds ra… Show more

“…Otherwise, the random-effects model was chosen. [12] Furthermore, a prediction interval was calculated under the random-effects model, because it can provide a predicted range for the true effect size. [1315] However, studies less than 3 were not calculated prediction interval.…”

“…The RR with 95% CI was used to compare binary data between the case and control groups, including local recurrence, distant metastasis, 3-year OS, 5-year OS, 3-year EFS and 5-year EFS. We applied the I 2 -statistic to calculate heterogeneity among the studies (I 2 > 50% implies significant heterogeneity) and the random-effects model was chosen, otherwise a fixed-effects model was used [ 33 ]. For crude data analysis, we used the number of people with or without pathological fracture in the case and control group.…”

“… 16 The fixed-effects model was used when I 2 < 50%; otherwise, the random-effects model was employed. 17 Furthermore, we conducted the Begg test to assess the publication bias, and it was considered statistically significant when P value was less than .05. All the statistical analyses were performed using the STATA 12.0 statistical software package (Stata Corporation, College Station, Texas).…”
