Abstract: This study aimed to evaluate the potential relationship between oxidative stress, dietary intake, and serum levels of antioxidants in patients with a complete hydatidiform mole (CHM) compared with controls. METHODS: This was an observational cross-sectional study conducted in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. A total of 140 women were enrolled in this study and divided into four groups: 43 patients with CHM, 33 women who had had an abortion, 32 healthy pregnant women, and 32 healthy non-pregnant women. All participants … Show more

“…11,12 Although the cytogenetic aetiology of MP is well understood, 13 different regional incidences suggest that genetic, immunological, nutritional and environmental factors may be associated with the development of this disease and might manifest as different impacts from COVID-19. 14,15 The aim of this study is to assess whether the incidence and the aggressiveness of MP/postmolar GTN at presentation in the RC was influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil. Furthermore, we collected by questionnaire the patients' perceptions of the influence of COVID-19 on access to health services and follow-up, during the pandemic year of 2020, when compared with the 5 previous pre-pandemic years (2015)(2016)(2017)(2018)(2019).…”

“…Furthermore, two publications suggested the possibility of an increase in the incidence of MP as a result of COVID‐19, through immunological interaction of the virus with early pregnancy 11,12 .

“…[7][8][9][10] Epidemiological studies suggest that genetic, immunological and diet variations may be responsible for this higher incidence. 2,5,11 Some studies found that a low level of vitamin A (Vit-A) in the diet may be associated with a higher risk of HM incidence, as well as with its progression into GTN. [11][12][13][14] During postmolar follow-up, persistence of low and plateauing (L&P) serum hCG levels is not frequent, as it affects < 5% of the patients.…”
