IL-10 and ET-1 as biomarkers of rheumatic valve disease

Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the immunological profile and gene expression of endothelin-1 (ET-1) in mitral valves of patients with rheumatic fever originated from a reference service in cardiovascular surgery. Methods: This was a quantitative, observational and cross-sectional study. Thirty-five subjects (divided into four groups) participated in the study, 25 patients with chronic rheumatic heart disease and ten control subjects. The mean age of the sample studied was 34.5 years. Seventeen of them (48.58%) were mal… Show more

“…IL10 has been reported as a biomarker for rheumatic valve disease, especially in patients with chronic rheumatic fever [17]. However, although a few studies have investigated the association between IL10 promoter polymorphisms and RHD, the results are inconclusive, and no data are available with respect to IL10 polymorphisms and RHD in the Saudi population.…”

“…Many RMVD patients are children living in developing countries (Marijon et al, 2012). With the advancement of molecular medicine, efforts have been made to identify molecular markers of disease for clinical applications (Ozer et al, 2009;Banerjee et al, 2014;Leão et al, 2014). However, few RMVD biomarkers are known.…”

“…7 In a study of 35 Brazilian patients, by Leão et al, IL-10 concentration detected in RF/RHD patients was significantly higher as compared to healthy individuals. 12 In another study by Guilherme et al, IL-10 was produced by a large number of human infiltrating cells from valve and myocardium tissue which is probably related to inflammation of myocardium. 13 IL-10 was further even more significantly raised in patients of PAH, in comparison to patients of RHD mitral stenosis not having PAH.…”
