The association between obstructive sleep-disordered breathing (oSDB) and arterial stiffness, an independent predictor of cardiovascular outcomes, is not well established in children. This study compared cardiovascular parameters between healthy and oSDB children and aimed to identify predictors of arterial stiffness indices in children with oSDB. MethodsCross-sectional study realized in a tertiary hospital from June 2018 to January 2020. 48 children (3 to 10 years old) with clinical diagnosis of oSDB and indication for adenotonsillectomy and 24 controls were evaluated. Cardiovascular parameters were measured non-invasively by brachial artery oscillometry with What Is New Children with oSDB have augmented arterial stiffness, evidenced by the increase in AIx@75, measured non-invasively by brachial artery oscillometry with a portable device.Low quality of life and therefore a high disease burden in children with oSDB may be a risk factor for arterial stiffness.

Background & Objectives Developmental Coordination Disorder is a condition that affects motor performance and causes difficulty in learning, and activities of daily living. This condition is very prevalent in children who suffer from poor balance and motor impairments. The Objectives of this study are to determine the effects of trampoline exercises on motor performance and to assess the balance and quality of life in children. Methodology This randomized, placebo treatment-control trial was conducted at Federal Government Polyclinic Hospital in Islamabad Pakistan. Sample of 26 children, diagnosed with developmental coordination disorder consecutively aged 5–12 years meeting inclusion criteria were isolated into two groups; control and experimental using purposive sampling. The Participants in the control group performed conventional physical therapy and the experimental group received trampoline jumping exercise interventions 3x times a week for one hour and 1 hour 15 mins for experimental (trampoline group) for eight weeks with conventional physical therapy sessions. We used three validated questionnaires; Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCDQ), Paediatric Balance Scale (PBS), and Paediatric Quality of life (PQL). The data were analyzed using SPSS 21. A p-value<0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results Out of 26 participants, the mean age and S.D were 8.8±1.0. About 43% were males and 58%, were females. In the experimental group, the motor performance showed a significant difference between the two groups in the 8th-week p<0.007, and non-significant results for balance improvement p>0.05. The quality of life showed significant results at the 4th week with a p<0.03 and a non-significant difference between a group at the 8th week with p>0.05 and both groups estimated a p<0.001. Conclusion Although physical therapy is commonly utilized for treating children with developmental disorders, incorporating trampoline exercises into the program has been associated with improved motor performance.

Objective: To evaluate the impact of pediatric asthma on patients of a specialized outpatient clinic in Southern Brazil. Methods: The study included children aged 8 to 17 years old with asthma diagnosis (mild, moderate and severe) under treatment at the asthma clinic of Hospital São Lucas da Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), Brazil. Measurements of spirometry, quality of life, disease control and atopy tests were applied. Results: A total of 66 children were included in the study and divided into groups, according to the severity of the disease: mild, moderate or severe asthma. The results showed similarities in both the treatment and the impact of asthma between groups, except for adherence to treatment: the group with mild asthma showed least adherence to treatment, and the group with severe asthma, greater adherence (p=0.011). As to school absenteeism, the group with severe asthma showed higher frequency (p=0.012), with over 10 days per year (p=0.043). Spirometry showed lower volume/capacity for the group with moderate asthma, followed by the groups with severe and mild asthma. All groups had a high prevalence of allergic asthma, with mites as the main allergens. For quality of life (QOL), and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) levels, there were no differences between groups. In addition, the values were close to the acceptable levels for the total score and for each one of the six domains. The same occurred for the HRQOL-asthma module. Conclusions: QOL and HRQOL present acceptable levels regardless of the severity of the disease.

Abstract: Ours results show that the Brazilian version of the questionnaires is valid, reliable and useful for measure HRQoL of children and adolescents ESRD, according to patients and PC reports.
