Spectrophotometric investigation of DL-tryptophan in the presence of Ni(II) or Co(II) ions

Abstract: KEYWORDSIn the present study, synthesis of transition metal complexes of DL-tryptophan with metal precursors such as nickel (II) and cobalt (II) ions in water under refluxing conditions and optimization of the reactions to obtain the composition of complexes in water solutions has been reported. The preparation and structural elucidation of the complexes was undertaken by using physico-chemical, potentiometric titration and spectroscopic methods (UV/Vis, FT-IR and XRD). Comparisons of the spectral measurements… Show more

“…Strong chemical bonding of Trp to the surface is supported by the fact that it is not eliminated after numerous washings. Trp complexes can be formed with participation of carboxyl [28,33], amino group [34][35][36], and -electron system of indole [27,37,38]. Coordination of Trp through carboxyl group seems more possible in surface complexes, with protonated ␣-amino group oriented to the solution and thus stabilizing the nanoparticle.…”
