Abstract: KEYWORDS The special interest attached to the chemistry of metal carbonyls arises from several causes. While quite distinct from the metal carbonyls in the organometallic compounds, they differ in physical properties (e.g., their volatility) from all other compounds of the transition metals. Chemically, they constitute a group of compounds in which the formal valency of the metal atoms is zero, and in this respect (apart, perhaps, from the ammoniates of the alkali metals) they are comparable only with the rece… Show more

“…CDCl 3 and C 6 D 6 were degassed by three freeze–pump–thaw cycles and stored over molecular sieves. Compounds [Cp*MCl 4 ] (M = Mo and W) and [M′(CO) 5 ·THF], (M′ = Cr, Mo, and W) were prepared according to the literature method, while other chemicals, such as [LiBH 4 ·THF] (2.0 M in THF), Cp*H, n -BuLi, [Cr(CO) 6 ], [Mo(CO) 6 ], and [W(CO) 6 ], were obtained commercially (Aldrich) and used as received. MeI was purchased from Aldrich and freshly distilled prior to use.…”

“…1B). 24 Meanwhile, the HOMO of the CO molecule is energetically closer to the metal d-orbital than that of the N 2 molecule, resulting in a more stable metal-CO σ bond. As a result, N 2 is usually a poorer π-acceptor ligand than CO, 25 while achieving horizontal N 2 adsorption is even more challenging.…”
