Effects of Saddle Height on Performance and Muscular Activity During the Wingate Test

Show more

“…(2016) who also observed no effects from saddle height on torque generated or the asymmetry between the lower limbs during cycling. Notably, several prior studies evaluating torque and power production at different saddle heights were performed during maximum effort testing (i.e., the Wingate test; Moura et al., 2017; Peveler, Pounders, & Bishop, 2007), precluding a direct comparison of those results with this study. We did find an effect on torque production from varying pedal cadence, with a slower cadence (FCC − 20%) showing the highest torque values at all saddle heights.…”

“…All participants answered the Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire, which assesses readiness for physical activity through seven questions about physical activity, cardiovascular problems, medications, injuries, and diagnostic limitations (Thomas, Reading, & Schephard, 1992) in which two positive responses to the questionnaire were a criterion for exclusion. Participant sample size followed the example of 8-15 participants used in similar past research (Agrícola et al., 2016; Marsh & Martin, 1998; Moura et al., 2017; Nordden-Snyder, 1977; Rossato, Bini, Carpes, Diefenthaeler, & Moro, 2008). All participants signed an informed consent form, and all study procedures were examined and approved by the University Committee of Ethics in Research with Human (CAAE: 37090814.40000.0118).…”

“…The Wingate test was performed using a cycle ergometer (Monark model 864 Crescent AB, Varberg, Sweden). The seat height was adjusted so that when the pedal was at the 6 o'clock position, the knee angles were 25 to 35 degrees [21,22].…”
