Abstract: ABSTRACT. The effect of organic manure on the community of mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) was evaluated in maize, cowpea and cotton intercropping systems in a semi-arid region of Brazil over two consecutive years. The experiment was conducted using a randomized block design with four replicates and six soil treatments: (M) goat manure incorporated in the soil before planting; (G) gliricidia prunings incorporated before planting; (M+G) manure and gliricidia incorporated before planting; (GS) gliricidia applied on the … Show more

“…Soil amendments with organic residues change the soil properties and also modify the plant and fungal responses to symbiosis. Similarly, Sousa et al, (2012) reported favourable response of goat manure incorporation on AM spore and glomalin production in the rhizosphere of cotton.…”

“…Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) are frequently associated with plants, and play essential roles in nutrient uptake, especially phosphorus. Studies have found that chemical fertilizers decreased the diversity and colonization rate of AMF (Lin et al, 2012;Sheng et al, 2013;Chen et al, 2014;Song et al, 2015), while organic matter induces greater diversity and the development of external AMF mycelium (Gryndler et al, 2006;Wu et al, 2010;Sousa et al, 2012). The addition of nitrogen always enhances the growth of saprotrophic fungi, and stimulates the decomposition of organic substrates by saprotrophic fungi (Allison et al, 2009;Rousk and Baath, 2011).…”
