“…The research on the professional roles of journalists has a long tradition [Cohen, 1963;Janowitz, 1975]. Our reference will be the categorization by Berganza, Lavín and Piñeiro-Naval [2017], which is recent and already applied to the Spanish context. These authors identified six categories of journalistic roles: guard dog -which in our case will be understood as 'political control' -, speaker of the citizens, trainer of the audience -which in our case is closely related to training, mobilization and social awareness -, supporter of the status quo, entertainer of the general public and disseminator of objective information.…”
