“…For example, they most prominently have included body size/weight/stereotypes, race, ability, sexuality, gender, and socioeconomic status. Philpot, Smith, and Ovens (2019) summarized these forms of critical pedagogy in PETE under three distinct headings: critical reflection (visual methods, diaries or essays, and narrative inquiry), pedagogies of discomfort (embodied experiences, place-based pedagogy), and democratic pedagogies (knowledge-sharing rather than banking: co-collaboration). Other scholars have added to these headings with methods including: freewriting, critically orientated readings, peer-teaching, negotiating the curriculum, storytelling, project-based learning, dialogue, videos, role play, analysis of case studies, immersion experiences, field experiences, the use of personal biographies, using assessment as dialogue and employing self-grading practices, drawing on art-based pedagogies (i.e., gallery walks), and employing digital media such as blogs, YouTube videos, and online content.…”
