“…The levels of the average baseline score were 4 to 16 points higher than in the previous study, 33 - 36 indicating that the participants in this study generally had a good QoL before the intervention compared with a similar sample of cancer patients in previous studies. The reason for a higher average baseline score could be attributed to the fact that the participants in this study had been diagnosed for an average duration of 3.6/1.7 years, which could have modified their attitude in facing cancer, resulting in a better QoL even at the start of the intervention.…”

In line with the studies of Granieri et al (2013) and Pérez et al (2014) , we see our findings as underlining the role of subjectivity, resilience factors and personal history of the patient’s life, rather than dwelling on the objectivity of the cancer event in itself.…”

“…The lack of effective treatments, together with the difficulty of communicating with physicians, underlies the increased incidence of intense emotional disturbance resulting from the diagnosis of MM [9]. Indeed, the literature has remarked that the diagnosis of MM is a shocking traumatic experience associated with depressive symptoms and feelings of hopelessness, helplessness and despair [10][11][12][13][14]. A depressed state is a common psychopathologic feature of MM [15][16][17] that worsens with disease progression [18].…”
