Abstract: Purpose To investigate the protective effects of salvianolic acid A (SAA) on renal damage in rats with chronic renal failure (CRF). Methods The five-sixth nephrectomy model of CRF was successfully established in group CRF (10 rats) and group CRF+SAA (10 rats). Ten rats were selected as sham-operated group (group S), in which only the capsules of both kidneys were removed. The rats in group CRF+SAA were intragastrically administrated with 10 mg/kg SAA for 8 weeks. The bl… Show more

“…Prior to quantitative analysis, we screened 15 components (from the 71 components identified by qualitative analysis) that were reported to exhibit beneficial effects in the treatment of CKD and anaemia, including atractylenolide II, glycyrrhizic acid, and salvianolic acid B. More specifically, astragaloside IV, salvianolic acid B, and glycyrrhizic acid have been reported to exhibit anti‐renal fibrosis activity, 6,35 while salvianolic acid A, liquiritin, and atractylenolide II exert anti‐oxidant effects, 36–38 and atractylenolide I exhibits anti‐inflammatory, anti‐neoplastic, and diuretic properties 39 . In addition, previous research has indicated that three flavonoids (i.e.…”

“… 31 A significant decrease in BUN, Scr and other renal function indexes indicated renal failure. 32 We observed that the BUN, Scr, Cre, and UPr in the Model group significantly increased. The treatment of PD decreased these indicators, while UCG treatment enhanced the effect of PD treatment.…”

“…Several models of CKD were used to study the efficacy and action of mechanisms of Salvia miltiorrhiza. In the five-sixth nephrectomy model ( Zhang, et al, 2019b ) ( Zhang, et al, 2019a ) ( Zhang, et al, 2018 ) ( Wang, et al, 2015b ), administration of Salvianolic acid A (SAA) and Tanshinone IIA were shown to attenuate oxidative stress and inflammation by activating the Akt/GSK-3beta/Nrf2 signaling pathway and up-regulation of bone morphogenetic protein 7 (BMP-7) and Smad6 as well as inhibiting NF-κB and p38 MAPK and TGF-β/Smad signaling pathways. In adriamycin (ADR)-induced minimal change disease (MCD) rat model, SAA exhibited a significant anti-proteinuria effect ( Wang, et al, 2019b ).…”
