Abstract: Purpose To investigate the influence of lycium barbarum polysaccharides (LBP), a functional derivative from lycium barbarum, on septic kidney injury. Methods The SD male rats were randomly divided into 8 groups. The concentration of IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, TNF-α, NF-κB and ROS, in kidney cortex homogenates after 12 h treatments were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and ROS test kit, respectively. Morphology observation of kidney tissue was conducted with HE st… Show more

“…In a model of LPS-induced AKI, treatment with dexmedetomidine, a selective α2 adrenal receptor (α2-AR) agonist, induced the expression of HO-1 and NQO-1 via the GSK-3β/Nrf2 signaling pathway, decreasing AKI pathological features [ 141 , 143 ]. A recent report determined that Lycium barbarum polysaccharide (LBP) also induces Nrf2 activation, upregulating the antioxidant response, and this protective effect was reversed by brusatol (an inhibitor of Nrf2 signaling) [ 144 ]. The natural precursor and glycoside form of resveratrol, polydatin, improved LPS-induced AKI by increasing Nrf2 and HO-1 expression [ 145 ].…”

“…We then determined the degree of kidney injury based on the morphology changes observed under a light microscope. The scoring criteria from 0 to 5 as follows: 0 = normal morphology; 1 = degeneration only without necrosis; and 2 (<25%), 3 (<50%), 4 (<75%), and 5 (>75%) = necrosis, vacuolar degeneration, tubular dilatation and haemorrhage 13 …”

“…Chinese wolfberry that has several properties, including anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative, anti-aging, and hypolipidemic activities [12]. The anti-inflammatory effects of LPB have been reported in various diseases [13][14][15]. For instance, LBP protects the kidneys from inflammatory injury in septic rats by regulating the Keap1-Nrf2/ARE signaling pathway [13].…”

For instance, LBP protects the kidneys from inflammatory injury in septic rats by regulating the Keap1-Nrf2/ARE signaling pathway [13]. Additionally, LBP attenuates the LPS-induced acute respiratory distress syndrome by inhibiting inflammation, apoptosis, and oxidative stress in pulmonary endothelial cells [14].…”
