Evaluation of the therapeutic effect of methylene blue on the liver of rats submitted to ischemia and reperfusion

Abstract: Purpose: To analyze the effect of methylene blue (MB) therapy during the liver ischemiareperfusion injury (I/R) process. Methods: Thirty-five male Wistar rats were used, (70%) submitted to partial ischemia (IR) or not (NIR) (30%) were obtained from the same animal. These animals were divided into six groups: 1) Sham (SH), 2) Sham with MB (SH-MB); 3) I/R, submitted to 60 minutes of partial ischemia and 15 minutes of reperfusion; 4

“…However, such consumption rates, when expressed in reason -RCR -are attenuated, what would probably be corrected with an increase in the number of animals in each group. The results found in the three parameters are similar to those obtained by Castro e Silva 35 in the treatment with Methylene Blue, which supports the pharmacological similarity of the compounds considered in this study 19 .…”

“…NO/cGMP inhibition would make a difference in the treatments of vasoplegia and IRI. Our 25 years of experimental and clinical experience have led us to believe that methylene blue (MB) is a compound that can be effectively employed [18,49,296,297,298,299,300,301]. The effects of MB are apparent only regarding NO up-regulation, while the compound, per se, cannot be considered to act as a vasoconstrictor.…”
