Bioactive compounds and antioxidant activity of fruit of temperate climate produced in subtropical regions

Abstract: Temperate fruit species, originate from regions with cold winters and well-defined climatic seasons. These fruits are also produced in subtropical and tropical regions. The aim of this study was to determine the bioactive compounds and antioxidant activity of different fruit cultivars from fruit trees of temperate climate, such as peach, pear, quince, and fig, able to be produced in subtropic regions. Analyzes of antioxidant activity, total phenolics and ascorbic acid were carried out. In peaches, 'Biuti' had … Show more

“…The antioxidant capacity was determined using the ABTS test. TAC was measured using the method published by Curi et al (2021), with a few tweaks, allowing for the determination of antioxidant capacity due to hydrophilic chemicals. With slight modifications, Girennavar et al (2007) DPPH free radical test was also used to assess the hydrophilic antioxidant activity.…”

“…Around twothirds of the overall citrus, output comes from the United States, China, the Mediterranean nations, and Brazil (Lacirignola & D'Onghia, 2009). Citrus fruits are among the most valuable cultivars in world commerce, and they're in great demand for food additives in meals and drinks, freeze concentrates, juice processing, and fresh consumption all over the world (Czech et al, 2020;Xu et al, 2008). Colour is a crucial determinant in consumer acceptance and internal and external quality across the many citrus cultivars and species (Hoppu et al, 2021).…”

“…Compared to apples, it contains small quantities of sodium which helps in the management of obesity and cardiac control diet plans (Reiland and Slavin, 2015). Owing to its high-nutritional value and specific pleasant taste, it is desirous to make pear fruit/juice available around the year, and presence of phenolic compounds, which help in prevention of many diseases, resulting in a growing interest in drinking pear juice (Curi et al. , 2021).…”

Pear is, however, a seasonal fruit; and under ambient conditions has a limited shelf life rendering its availability as fresh fruit for a specific period only which increases an emerging demand for pear juice powder in both domestic and international markets as a primer of new food products.…”
