Abstract: Objective:To investigate the relationship between self-perceived fatigue with different physical functioning tests and functional performance scales used for evaluating mobility-related disability among community-dwelling older persons.Method:This is a cross-sectional, population-based study. The sample was composed of older persons with 65 years of age or more living in Cuiabá, MT, and Barueri, SP, Brazil. The data for this study is from the FIBRA Network Study. The presence of self-perceived fatigue was asse… Show more

“…This is in contrast with other studies that found a significant relationship between fatigue and IADL-limitations and/or deteriorated mobility in both genders 9,14,1619. However, previous studies indicating a significant relationship had either a cross-sectional design or a shorter follow-up time than the present study 9,1418,20. Moreover, in our study, the association between fatigue and IADL-limitations was statistically significant in the crude and age-adjusted model in females but became statistically non-significant in the fully adjusted model suggesting that factors other than fatigue influence IADL-limitations.…”

“…A further explanation for the associations not being statistically significant could be a lack of power in females due to the smaller sample size and weaker associations compared to males. In addition, the assessment of fatigue was based on a single question of an overall feeling of fatigue, whereas other studies used multiple-item questionnaires or assessed the level of fatigue after the performance of specific activities 9,1416,18,20…”

“…74 Others have reported that SPPB scores are related to fatigue in older persons living in the community. 75 Functional decline and fatigue are related to SPPB scores, yet injurious falls were not related to total SPPB scores. 76 Injurious falls were related to taking ≥ 16.7 seconds to complete the five-times chair rise test and a history of falling.…”
